Let’s talk clean beauty

I’m always on the search for quality makeup and skincare that is made with integrity. Having dealt with a plethora of health issues, I am very particular about what I put on my body.

Women are often marketed products that are chock full of ingredients that do not jive with the delicate balance of hormones in our bodies. So many ingredients commonly used in beauty products are endocrine disrupters.

A lot of us have been taught not to “be difficult” or to question what is available to us. We are force fed the idea that we must look a certain way, we must use harmful chemicals and treatments to maintain our appearance, and then are left to deal with the negative effects that “keeping up appearances” can have on our health.

As consumers, and especially as women, I feel it is extremely important to question what goes in or on your body and to remain well-informed about ingredients you come into contact with everyday. It is time we make the societal shift toward valuing how we FEEL over how we LOOK. One way we can make this shift is to talk with our money. Spend with companies & brands who care about your wellbeing and are creating products that will not harm your health. Make clean & healthy beauty the norm instead of the exception.

Now that I got my two sense out of the way, here’s my list of clean beauty brands I have been loving lately:

Violette_FR

Violette France is a French beauty brand that makes makeup and skincare products. From their Invisible Bandage to their classic Bisou Balm, VF has all the cool girl essentials you need. They are selective about the ingredients they use and center their brand around self-care and self-expression. Personally, I’m loving the Yeux Paint in shade Dieu Bleu.

Ursa Major

I found this brand on Thrive Market. They make wilderness inspired skincare with top notch ingredients. It’s like buying the forest in a bottle. Their products are especially great if you have dry/combo skin. I’m currently loving their Golden Hour Recovery Cream. It’s a medium weight cream moisturizer that works perfectly with my combination skin.

The Necessaire

The Necessaire is a minimalist personal care/skincare brand that focuses on clean, minimal ingredients. Their packaging is simple, elegant, and beautiful. They also don’t use added fragrance. I’m currently loving their Hyaluronic Acid Shampoo.

Tower28

Tower28 is a very popular clean beauty brand (they’re in Sephora for God’s sake). Nonetheless, they are still one of my favorites, and their products are extremely affordable. And that’s exactly why they’ve made this list. Not only are they very inclusive with their advertising, but they’re also a very accessible brand for people who don’t have a ton of money to spend. Their Swipe Serum Concealer is one of the best I’ve used and I wear their ShineOn Lip Jelly pretty much everyday. Definitely a great brand to check out if you are just getting started with cleaning up your beauty routine.

Sana Skin

Sana Skin is a small skincare brand started by Sophia Ruiz. She is an esthetician who struggled with severe cystic acne so she decided to create her own products. Everything is created based on scientific research she does herself and she is very hands on in helping her customers tailor her products to their specific needs. I’ve been using her Purity Cleanser and Revival Polish, both staples in my daily routine.
